This winter just seemed to linger on and on. A couple weeks ago, it seemed like it was never going to end. Fast forward to this week, and Spring is finally here. We are finally hitting 60 degrees and the snow is starting to disappear. The ice on the other hand... is not. Emails and phone calls come in almost daily, asking how thick the ice is.
It’s thick enough that open water for Walleye opener is doubtful. It’s thick enough that docks will be put in at the very last second and chances are, we may have guests in camp to watch the action. It’s thick enough that people are enjoying these beautiful spring days chancing Perch and Crappies on top of the ice. And it is thick enough for them to drive their vehicles to their favorite fishing spots. In 26 years, I have never seen a vehicle on Agency Bay this late in the Spring.
Positive thoughts for warm, rain and wind. The magic combination needed to eat away at the ice in a hurry.
