Winter Travel

Visiting Bayside Resort and the Leech Lake area in the Winter time offers a completely different experience than what you can expect in the Summer.  You can choose from a wide variety of outdoor activities.  From snowmobiling to ice fishing, snow shoeing to cross country skiing, or just a getaway to relax in front of the fireplace, staying with Bayside Resort on Leech Lake offers a great place to enjoy what the wintery Northwoods has to offer.  You can choose to stay in our year round cabin, on the ice in our Ice Castle, or combine the both of them for a winter fishing package.

Check out our pricing and availability below.  Unsure of ice fishing or staying on the lake over night?  Read below to give you an idea of what you can expect to experience.

Never been ice fishing or spent the night on the ice?

Ice fishing is truly a surreal, relaxed, memorable experience. No other type of fishing is as relaxed and low key. Imagine sitting in the comfort of your soft, comfortable couch, looking down an ice hole. There is nothing like seeing the many layers of sparkling ice opening up to the crystal clear water that only winter can offer. As you are watching; a fish swims by, completely relaxed and unaware of your presence.

When ice fishing you can be an aggressive angler and use a rod and a jigging method or you can relax, watch TV, play cards, games or even nap and let the rattle reels and minnow do the work for you. Ice fishing can also be exhilarating. Not much in the fishing world can compare to landing that trophy fish through a 10-inch wide, 2 foot deep hole by bringing the line and fish in hand-over-hand with no net.

When it's time to eat, meal prep is easy with the stove, oven and microwave. Those hard won, naturally refrigerated fish are exceptionally good and "Shore lunch" tastes better than ever.

As bedtime approaches you can crawl into your comfortable bed and continue fishing via the rattle reels and minnow. The overnight sounds of the continual ice formation is another natural beauty of ice fishing. The pops, the groans and "ice songs", are unlike anything you hear outside of ice fishing.  If Northern Lights produced a sound, the cosmic sound of the ice "singing" is what we image the Aurora would sound like.

Worried about the cold? The only time you will need a jacket is when you step outside to take in the sights, head to your vehicle or if you want to set up a tip-up rig out the big bay windows. The thermostat controlled, forced-air furnace, can be set for any temperature and will keep you as warm as you would like.
